A national search is underway for the next Chief of Police for the Alamo Colleges District in San Antonio, Texas. Established in 1945, the Alamo Colleges District encompasses five institutions: San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College. Together, they serve tens of thousands of students annually with a mission to provide affordable, high-quality education and workforce training.
The Alamo Colleges Police Department (ACPD) provides comprehensive law enforcement and security services across all campuses and centers in Bexar and Guadalupe counties. With 125 authorized staff, including 101 sworn officers, ACPD operates a Criminal Investigations Division and a 24/7 Emergency Communications Center. Its commitment to innovation is exemplified by the SafeZone mobile app, offering real-time emergency connectivity for students, staff, and visitors.
The next Chief of Police will be a visible, approachable leader who builds trust across campuses through presence, engagement, and transparency. Integrity and accountability are essential, along with the ability to strengthen communication, align departmental leadership, and model fairness and decisiveness.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field, with a minimum of ten years of progressive law enforcement experience and at least five years in a supervisory or management role. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, advanced leadership training (FBI National Academy, SPI, Northwestern SPSC, or equivalent), and higher education policing experience.
