A national search is underway to attract a highly qualified candidate to lead the Gig Harbor Police Department in Gig Harbor, Washington. The Gig Harbor Police Department (GHPD) employees are committed to their mission: providing the Best Possible public safety and Service (BPS) to the Gig Harbor community. GHPD has a biennial budget of approximately $13.7M supporting a staff comprised of the following: two lieutenants, five sergeants, sixteen police officers, two detectives, a property and evidence technician, and two police service specialists.
The most competitive candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in behavioral science, business, communications, management, public administration, or criminal justice, along with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including at least five years of command experience.  Master’s degree and/or advanced training from Northwestern Staff & Command, FBI National Academy or the PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police is considered a plus. Must be a certified police officer in Washington or have the ability to obtain certification and successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation. This at-will position has a salary range of $182,561–$228,353, depending on experience and qualifications, that is augmented by an excellent benefits package.
