A national search is underway to attract a highly qualified candidate to lead the La Vista Police Department (LVPD). With a population of 16,648 and a daytime population that just exceeds 20,000, the City of La Vista is one of Nebraska’s fastest-growing cities. The LVPD has a 2024 budget of $7.2 million that supports an authorized staff of 47 sworn and 6 professional staff who are assigned to one of three divisions, each led by a Captain, who reports directly to the Chief of Police. The department is known for its responsiveness to emerging community needs, employing a team of skilled officers who are not only well-trained in traditional policing but are also attuned to the evolving challenges of contemporary society. This position requires a minimum of ten (10) years of law enforcement experience in a local government agency that demonstrates expertise in all facets of police administration, including at least three (3) years of increasingly responsible management experience in a command-level position with a range of operational and administrative experience in an urban/suburban police department. A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, police administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree and completion of advanced police leadership training such as the FBI National Academy, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police, or other advanced executive training are preferred. The salary range for this civil service appointed position is $117,255 – $164,213.
